Earlier this week Cupertino giant refreshed its MacBooks with Apple’s first in-house silicon, the M1. The M1 powers three Macs in total, the Mac Mini, Macbook Air, and 13-Inch Macbook Pro. Now, we have the first benchmark of the latest Apple silicon giving us a first look at the performance of the M1.
The Geekbench results of “MacBookAir10,1” running on the latest M1 silicon clocked at 3.2GHz and coupled with 8GB RAM running on ran macOS Big Sur 11.0.1, manages to get a single-core score of 1687 and a multi-core score of 7433.

Comparing to the other Macs, the M1 powered Air is just behind the three Macs, the top end 27-inch iMac, the iMac Pro 2017 powered by Intel Xeon W-214B, and last year’s Intel Xeon W-3223 powered Mac Pro. The 27-inch iMac Pro powered by 10th gen Intel Core i7-10700k having the highest multi-core score of 8019 among the Macs.

The MacBook Air is ahead of all iOS devices
The M1, which is apparently built on the top of A14 Bionic tops the scores of any iPhone. The iPhone 12 Pro manages to get a single-core score of 1584 and a multi-core score of 3898 which is the highest of any iPhones and the multi-core score is just half of what the M1 on MacBook Air scored. The new MacBook Air with M1 also outperforms the best iOS device on the Geekbench charts, the iPad Air 4th generation with the A14 Bionic having a single-core score of 1585 and a multi-core score of 4647.

The Geekbench scores of other M1 based Macs, the Mac mini, and the 13-inch MacBook Pro are also out on the platform. The Mac mini (Macmini9,1) gets a single-core score of 1682 and a multi-core score of 7097. The interesting thing to note is that the M1 in the mini is clocked at 3.04GHz. While the 13-inch Pro (MacBookPro17,1) powered by M1 silicon which is also clocked at 3.2GHz manages to score 1714 in single-core performance and 6802 in the multi-core performance test.
These benchmark scores do validate Apple’s claim of the new Macs being powerful than 98% of PC’s out there, as they are powerful than Apple’s own portfolio of Macs which are considered to be the greatest in the computing industry.
The M1 is the first SoC (System On a Chip) for Mac that brings the 8 core CPU, integrated graphics which Cupertino giant claims to be the fastest of the lot, and a neural engine that is capable of executing 11 trillion operations per second, and an ISP that is said to improve the same old 720P webcam of Macs. All thanks to the power-efficient M1 silicon, the new generation of MacBooks is expected to deliver the longest battery life ever on any Mac or even a Notebook.
The new M1 powered Macs will be available in India starting November 17. The Mac mini starts at Rs 64,900, whereas the new MacBook Air is available for the same Rs 92,900 just like Intel-powered Air launched previously this year, and the base variant of the 13-inch MacBook Pro will be retailing at 1,22,900.
