NVIDIA Geforce RTX 2080 Ti

Of course, when it comes to 4K, there’s only one Titan (no, not that one) – The RTX 2080 Ti. This graphics card was the first to debut with raytracing capabilities (for gaming consumers). Of course, we got the RTX 2080 and the middle child – the RTX 2080 Super, but if you’re one to crank all the settings to highest, then the 2080 Ti is your best bet.

The 2080 Ti packs 11 GB of VRAM for the higher-end 4K textures that you’ll be toggling on during gaming. When it comes to NVIDIA graphics cards, this one sits on top. Of course, it also costs a lot to buy one, but with Ampere coming out later this year, it should drop in price. Why should you get this over the newer GPUs? Value. The GTX 1080 Ti is still a great NVIDIA graphics card, but the lack of raytracing features on it does make it age worse. The 2080 Ti on the other hand should do just fine for the next few years.

NVIDIA Geforce RTX 2070 Super

The RTX 2070 Super was one of the 3 “Super” cards that NVIDIA released earlier this year to bump up the original card’s specs. The launch RTX cards didn’t necessarily pack enough power to push high framerates with RTX turned ON, so a refresh was necessary. With that said, the 2070 Super is a slight improvement over 2070, which on average only performed just above the 60 FPS target.

This is why we’ve chosen the Super version of the card, which should guarantee performance above 60 FPS at 1440p. That’s with RTX On, which is quite heavy on performance. And if you want a little extra, you could always try gaming in medium detail at 4K with it.

NVIDIA Geforce RTX 2060

Ah, the NVIDIA RTX 2060 was a very confusing offering from NVIDIA back when Turing launched in 2018. It wasn’t really powerful enough for raytracing, despite having dedicated RT cores. If I was writing this last year, I would’ve told you to wait. But earlier this year NVIDIA released the DLSS 2.0 update, and it’s the ace in the hold needed to push high framerates with RTX On. We reviewed DLSS 2.0 in Control earlier this year, and the results speak for themselves. It has made recommending the RTX 2060 easier, despite it being the weakest NVIDIA graphics card with RTX capability.

With more games like Death Stranding adopting this technology, we feel confident that RTX 2060 will last longer. Of course, let’s not forget that this card was really meant to be a 1440p starter GPU, but when you’re dealing with performance heavy raytracing, we decided it’s better suited for 1080p. It’s also considerably cheaper since NVIDIA stopped manufacturing them, and with DLSS 2.0, you’re sure to get a good value out of it now.

NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1660 Super

With so many raytracing capable NVIDIA GPUs here, you might be forgiven to think every other game uses it. The sad reality is that very few games are using the tech (at least until next-gen PS5 & Xbox launches). So, if you don’t care about the latest technology and only want a no-nonsense 1080p graphics card, then the GTX 1660 Super will do you just fine.
