Earlier this year Ruby Rose’s exit from Batwoman came as a surprise to her fans. The reason for this decision was the feud between the actor and the production. “Rose was unhappy with the long hours required of her as the series lead, which led to friction on the set. It was thus decided by her and the network and studio, Warner Bros. Television, that they would part ways,” reported various sources.
The new lead of the CW’s Batwoman will not be Kate Kane. The show was expected to go for a new identity of Batwoman, who will not be a cousin of Bruce Wayne. This is a far more elegant way of replacing a lead than straight-out recasting, especially given the fact that comic book canon is built on superheroes having multiple alter egos. Batwoman made history in the 2019-20 season as the first scripted live-action TV series featuring a superhero of the LGBTQ+ community as the central cast.
Rose faced immediate backlash on social media after she was cast for the role. She eventually quit Twitter, although she remained active on Instagram.

Rose’s surprise announcement on May 19 said that she had exited the series, saying “This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew, and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles. I am beyond appreciative to [executive producers] Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries for not only giving me this incredible opportunity but for welcoming me into the DC universe they have so beautifully created.”
Batwoman was forced to end its season early due to the coronavirus pandemic. The drama finished its 22 episodes long season in 20 episodes on May 17, the 20th episode serving as the season finale. Fans are anticipating the new cast release or any formal announcement regarding the same in the near future.
