Young Sheldon is a prequel to The Big Bang Theory created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro. Young Sheldon is about Sheldon Cooper at the age of nine. It just never gets boring seeing him grow into Dr. Cooper. Throughout his younger days, he tries to fit into the world around him, while his family and friends attempt to deal with his unique intellectual capabilities and social challenges.
Along with other series which are widely loved like FRIENDS and The Big Bang Theory, the streaming service launched this Wednesday, HBO Max, has acquired the streaming rights for Young Sheldon too, making it a wholesome deal. HBO Max acquired the entire 12-season library for The Big Bang Theory in September. The series, until HBO Max launched this week, had never been licensed to a streamer. Well, nobody could have taken Sheldon’s spot on HBO Max.
“We now feel like our Big Bang offering is complete,” said Kevin Reilly, chief content officer, HBO Max. “We are so proud to be the home of this beloved franchise and the place where new and existing fans can learn about young Cooper’s roots,” he added.
However, the streaming service did not reveal when Young Sheldon would air. They also didn’t disclose any information about the financial details of acquiring the streaming right. The series is heading into its fourth season once 2020-21 streaming begins. It is one of the most-watched comedy on network television among total viewers. After all, young Sheldon is the cutest intellectual you’ll see.
“It is likely to be much less than it paid for its parent show. A deal thought to be north of $600M,” reported Deadline.
“In order for Sheldon Cooper to visit his younger self, he would need to manipulate space-time. All you actually need is HBO Max. We are so pleased that Young Sheldon will once again be reunited with his future self on HBO Max, and we are excited for fans, new and old, to be able to binge both The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon for the first time,” said Lorre and Molaro joint statement Friday.
