Known for his performance in movies like The Notebook, La La Land, and many others, Ryan Gosling is all set to play Wolfman in the upcoming Universal Pictures project. The project comes after the success of The Invisible Man, which earned more than $122 million at the global box office.
The studio is now preparing to bring back this iconic 1935’s Werewolf of London starring Henry Hull in the role which was later revamped by the studio as The Wolf Man, starring Lon Chaney Jr. in 1941. The last Werewolf movie at Universal, 2010’s The Wolfman, had Benicio del Toro in the title role. It followed Lawrence Talbot, who, while returning to his homeland, is afflicted by an ancient curse when he is bitten by a werewolf.
The Wolfman script is written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, who also wrote for Netflix’s flagship series Orange Is the New Black.
“Executives at Universal have been meeting with directors over the past month and could be making a decision soon on who will take the reins behind the camera. While there is no frontrunner at the time, Cory Finley, who recently received rave reviews for directing HBO’s drama “Bad Education” with Hugh Jackman and Allison Janney, is said to be in the mix for the job,” reported Variety.
The search for a director for the new Wolfman film is currently underway. No other information about the project has been revealed yet. As California begins to outline plans for film and TV production to resume after being on halt due to the pandemic, there’s no word yet on when Wolfman might start shooting. Ryan Gosling is currently hooked up with MGM to star as an astronaut in an upcoming project directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. It’s an adaptation of an upcoming novel from Andy Weir, the author of The Martian.
