AMD’s B550 Chipsets: Zen 3 Support Confirmed – Enthusiast-Class Features Out on June 16

We have some good news for all the budget gamers out there in the form of the new B550 chipset for AM4 socket CPUs. The AM4 socket which debuted in 2016 had an impressive run and continues to do so. Riding on the coattails of the news of Ryzen 3 3100 and 3300X, comes the announcement of the B550 chipset.

The B550 brings with it some of the most sought of features like PCIe 4.0 support. For instance, Dual GPU support which was previously reserved for X470/570 chipsets makes its way on to the entry-level boards. So we basically get all the enthusiast-class features at a budget.

The importance of PCIe 4.0 can’t be overstated, especially after what we learned about next-gen consoles. So it might be a staple for gamers as next-gen consoles offer super quick transfer speeds. Even the general purpose lanes are upgraded to PCIe 3.0 from 2.0 found in 400 series boards.

There wasn’t a proper budget Mother Board to take advantage of all the features offered by the Ryzen 3000 CPUs. Hence many held out on building their rig featuring budget CPUs. Now the MotherBoards featuring the B550 chipsets will be perfect for those who are planning to build a rig with a Ryzen 3 3100/3300X and Ryzen 5 3500/3600.

One strange decision that AMD seems to have taken is the omission of support to the Ryzen 3 3200G and the Ryzen 5 3400G APUs. Although there is another good news – The B550 platform will support Ryzen 4000 desktop CPUs aka Zen 3. Yes, you can have a cheap $100-ish priced motherboard that supports the upcoming Zen 3 lineup!

All these features are offered at an unbelievable price, starting at $100. Christmas has come early for all those keen-eyed PC-builders who are starting out now. The Ryzen 3 3100/3300X which is set to release later this month will act as a killer combo with these MoBos.
