AMD’s Renoir Ryzen 5 APU Beats Intel’s Comet Lake i7

We are at a point where AMD can be hyper-competitive even in the mobile space. This bears true with this Ryzen 5 beating out an Intel i7, which is a tier higher. In other words, AMD’s new Ryzen 5 4600HS one-ups the Intel i7-10750H in the benchmark scores.

The new Renoir APUs have injected the much-needed boost to AMDs Arsenal to tackle Intel’s dominance with mobile CPUs. For instance, the i7 has been the defacto choice for gaming laptops for many generations now even though Ryzen CPUs exist. But all this is about to change now with the introduction of AMD’s 7nm Ryzen mobile chips. Which seems to address both the performance and efficiency problems of the previous-gen CPUs.

Bizzare Benchmark Results

We have previously mentioned how UserBenchmark awarded a higher benchmark percentage to Intel’s CPU even though AMD had a higher score. From these new bench results, it indicates that it’s not a one-off situation. The AMD Ryzen 5 4600HS in the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 beats the average points of the Intel i7-10750H.

The Ryzen 5 4600HS scores an overall point of 1858 beats the 1775 points of the i7-10750H. Although the Ryzen gets slightly lower single-core points (129) vs Intel’s (133), it beats Intel in 64-core bench with 1031 points vs 956 for the i7. Yet Intel edges out to win the with 86.9% vs AMDs 86.2%, which is as bizarre this time as it was the last. It is important to note that the numbers for the Intel i7 come from an average of 155 benches.

Both the processors have 6-core, 12-thread, although AMD has a lower TDP of 35W vs Intel’s 45W. The Ryzen has a base clock of 3.0GHz and a boost of 4.0GHz, while Intel goes from 2.6 to 5.0GHz.

All in all, we have exciting times ahead as we finally have a competitor to Intel’s uncontested mobile throne. AMD not being competitive hurt consumers as much as it did themselves, so it’s a sigh of relief that they can finally fight back. This will make put Intel on their front foot as they have to make more compelling products and the consumer will end up being benefitted in the end.
