Your Instagram is not SAFE!

A latest Instagram cyber attack is around the corner and you must know about it. Ever received message request on Instagram with them sharing HOT pictures? Yes? Then you need to rethink about this. A latest Instagram attack under the name of HOTLIST is making rounds.

This scam is similar to “The Nasty Scam”.

How does it work?
You’ll receive a request from fake accounts under the name of HOTLIST with usernames like @The_HotList_95 with a message telling “I saw your picture on @The_HotList_95 and you’ve been upvoted #22!”

Once you visit the sender’s profile, you’ll see posts claiming “Everyone is on this List” asking you to click on the “Link in Bio” for checking if you’re there on this list.

The moment a user clicks on the Link, they’re taken to fake Instagram Login Page used by the scammers to capture your Login Credentials. The moment a user enters their login credentials out of the curiosity of checking if by any chance their photographs are available on the page, the Hackers will gain access to the credentials and now your account is being controlled by them.

What are the Impacts?

Once the hackers get access to your credentials, they use your account for spamming others, after all getting such a message from a genuine profile attracts more attention.

Steps to stay SAFE

  • If you receive any message request from the unknown username, avoid accepting the message requests.
  • Avoid clicking on any links shared on messages by unknown profiles.
  • Report accounts that you feel look like being used for phishing.
  • Share this article with your friends to let them know about this scam.
  • Avoid entering your login credentials on non-secured and unknown websites.
