The first beta of Android 13 is now available for use on Pixel smartphones. - Permission Requests Have Been Updated
Granular permissions for accessing images, videos, and audio files are being introduced by Google. Third-party apps will now ask for permission to access specific media file types in the future.
- Improved QR Code Scanning Access
QR codes are now almost everywhere, from payment terminals at local grocery stores to restaurant menus. The QR code scanner will be accessible from your phone’s lock screen in Android 13. You will also receive a Quick Settings tile to access the QR code scanner.
- Wallpaper Dimming and 3D Wallpapers
Android 13 will include 3D wallpapers that move along with your phone. The feature makes your photo into a 3D wallpaper by utilizing the WallpaperEffects API.
- Use the lock screen to control smart home devices.
Google is now allowing users to control smart home devices without unlocking their phones from the lock screen. The feature is turned off by default, but you can enable it if you want the added convenience. A new wallpaper dimming feature is also available, which dims your current wallpaper as well.
- Enable Flashlight with a Double Tap
To turn on or off the flashlight, double-tap the back of your phone. This is an unquestionably useful feature to have on your phone, especially if you frequently use your phone’s flashlight in the dark.
- Audio Output Picker has been redesigned.
In Android 13, Google redesigned the media output selector. The output picker, not to be confused with the expanded volume bar, allows you to choose from a variety of available output devices, such as Bluetooth headphones or phone speakers.
- Updated Media Player Progress Bar
The progress bar of Google’s media player now has a squiggly line. It appears when you’re listening to music and then fades away to reveal the standard straight line when you pause the media. The new progress bar will also appear on the lock screen, which is worth noting.
- Edit Clipboard text
When you cut or copy text, Android 13 adds a pencil icon to edit it. You can easily paste text from the clipboard into this feature and add/remove content. When you copy a phone number or a link, it will even give you the option to call/text or open the link in Chrome.
- App-Specific Languages
Languages can be set per app in Android 13. The feature will make it easier to use some apps in a specific language, which is ideal for polyglots. For example, while interacting with the rest of the phone in English, one could use Google Chrome in German.
