Samsung has finally announced its next generation chipset called Exynos 9820 as expected. This is a successor of the Exynos 9810 used on most of the Samsung flagships of 2018 and the new SoC will replace it for coming top-end Samsung smartphones. The Exynos 9820 brings several improvements and definitely a more powerful processor in every aspect.

It is powered by the tri-clustered octa-core CPU, which is claimed to be 15% more powerful than the 9810 in terms of single-core results, while, the multi-core results are improved by 20%. It employs 8nm LPP (Low Power Plus) FinFET process over 10nm used on the previous chip. Therefore, it should provide a more power efficiency and better user experience when it compares to its predecessor.

Furthermore, the LTE-Advanced Pro modem provides up to 2Gbps of download and 316Mbps of upload. Though this doesn’t justify the true 5G experience, it can be said a step toward the coming tech. Technically, it uses 8x CA and 316 Mbps uplink. Regarding the camera, the single-camera support is up to 22MP both on front and rear or dual 16MP camera. The good thing is that it can record up to 8K video @30FPS or 4K UHD Video @150FPS, which is a comprehensive enhancement over its predecessor.

The Exynos 9820 comes with the Mali-G76 cores, which is a 40% faster than the older as per the company’s claims. There is a separate NPU separate unit that would make any AI processes about seven times faster. In practice, it should help the camera to adjust the settings to the surrounding or objects in focus to provide better information. Moreover, the company confirms its mass production at the end of this year and we should see the first on Samsung Galaxy S10, that would be coming in Q1, 2019.
