December – International Day of Persons with Disabilities

As the end of the year approaches, so to does one of the most important days in the calendar for the disabled community and those who Support them. December 3rd is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities as recognised by the United Nations and aims to help those with any type of disability to have access to more opportunities as well as to reduce the stigma around disability in mainstream society. As a communication aid charity that supplies communication aids to people with disabilities in the UK, The Sequal Trust are encouraging everyone to get involved and support this fantastic cause!

Where Does Funding Go?

Money raised on and towards the IDOPWD helps fund more opportunities for people with disabilities. So far, the 2018 funding has enabled 1250 disabled people to receive mainstream opportunities, job training and support, 349 people have secured full time employment and 109 employer relationships and social enterprises have been established. Last year a record number of 104 countries celebrated the awareness day and hopefully, that number will increase with more awareness being raised every year.

How to Raise Funds

As a communication aid charity that relies solely on fundraising, we know a thing or two about how to raise funds. If you’re into exercising you can run, cycle, walk or do just about any sort of distance challenge in aid of a charity, asking for sponsors to help support you on your cause. Alternatively, there are a range of indoor activities you can host or partake in to help raise money, including a bake sale, a sponsored brunch or an arts and crafts morning! Whatever you decide to do, make sure your sponsors know that it is in support of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities by downloading their poster or purchasing an event day kit from their website.
