Company tried to get folks on board its messaging platform separately but now confirms it’s back to the old way
Facebook now requires you to have a Facebook Account if you want to sign up for Facebook Messenger. This used to be the case, but since June 2015 the company had allowed new users to get a Messenger account without having to have an existing Facebook profile.
Venturebeat noticed the change, and Facebook confirmed the reversal in an email statement:
