Coinbase has blocked WikiLeaks Shop in breach of terms of service

WikiLeaks Shop – gift shop international non-profit organization Wikileaks, said on Friday, April 20, that they account on Coinbase was blocked.

In its Twitter account, WikiLeaks Shop posted a screenshot of the emails Coinbase, which States that the organization violated the Terms of service and, therefore, “can no longer have access to the service.” Coinbase did not respond to a request for comment, so what violated the rules WikiLeaks Shop remains unclear.

All proceeds from the store go to support the activities of WikiLeaks, and customers can, or rather could, to pay for purchases in Bitcoin, Litecoin, Bitcoin, Cash, Dash, Dogecoin, Ethereum, Neo, Namecoin, Vertcoin, Monero and using zcash for Coinpayments.net.

In response to such actions of WikiLeaks have called for a boycott Coinbase:

Bitcoin Evangelist Andreas M. Antonopoulos tweeted that Coinbase “repeats history” because Bitcoin has played an important role in the history of WikiLeaks as the global financial structure has effectively blocked the possibility of financing:

Last fall, the leader of WikiLeaks Julian Assange publicly thanked the US government for the fact that at the time of the organization had to switch completely to bitcoin due to Bank embargo, which resulted in 50,000 percent increase of income for WikiLeaks.

Antonopoulos added in comments to your tweet that the embargo Coinbase differs from the first in the sense that it was “purely symbolic” because there are other cryptocurrency wallets, but that “it’s a pretty strong reminder of what constitutes centralization and banking regulation”.
