Differences Between Hexa Core and Octa Core Processor

Hexa and Octa are terms used in the mathematical world. Hexa simply means 6 and Octa means 8. These terms, however, are not only used mathematically but they are also used in the technological world as well. They are used in the concept of processors. These processors are highly suitable for multi-tasking.

Whether your processor is a quad Core or a hexa core or an octa core, they actually are dedicated to do different tasks. The reason this is possible as there is a division of workload which could make the processors more efficient.

Multi-Core Processor cores perform differently.

  • One of the core processor could be operating your call
  • The other one would be doing the needful to open a website
  • Third one could help you play games or listen to music

The mentioned tasks are usually done at the same time which will make your computer system work more efficiently. Though this is the case, this would not mean that a single core of a multiple core processor will be assigned to perform only one particular task. In fact, the main reason as to why multiple cores in a processor would distribute workload among cores is so that your computer system could and would function smoothly. In other words, it would not be experiencing interruptions and freezes.

Octa core processors come in two sets of four cores each. One set would come with low power while the other set would have high power. Though these cores come in sets, they are independent from each other. Tasks according to type would be split between two cores. Low powered set of cores will be the ones that perform the necessary tasks. The high powered set, on the other hand, are for advanced tasks like rendering or watching HD videos.

Hexa core processors are categorized in the multi-core processor family. They are assigned to perform at high speed and are considered as higher than dual and quad core processor.

In this article, we shall discuss the differences of these cores and which processor would perform better. To be able to determine the performance level of the mentioned processors, we have considered the following factors:

  • Core designing
  • fabrication processes
  • Volume of silicon used
  • Types of transistors used
  • Clock speeds
  • Cache memory

Differences Between Hexa Core and Octa Core Processor

Design and Architecture

The hexa-core processor comes with 6 cores which functions either independently or as together depending on the need. If you have dual qual core variant, it could be possible that there could be two performance cores and four power cores. Of course, this would always depend on the make and model of your processor.

Octa core processor on the other hand would come with 8 cores. If your processor comes with dual-hexa-core architecture, this would include two performance cores and 6 efficiency cores. However, if it comes with quad-quad architecture, you will then have 4 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores.

Increase in Speed

Hexa core processor provides a faster performance while the octa core processors could increase your device’s performance speed by using numerous transistors.

Use of Silicon

Octa core processor could enhance the performance when it uses huge amount of silicon. Keep in mind, however, it could increase the cost. Hexa-core processor on the other hand would not be as costly as octa core but the silicon amount that it uses would be lesser.

Superior GPU

Hexa core processor, as mentioned earlier is faster compared to octa core processor. The reason behind this is due to GPU. Octa core processor, unfortunately does not have the same superior GPU that Hexa core processor.

Which is Better – Octa Core or Hexa Core Processor?

Unfortunately, this question is difficult to answer as there is no such thing as better processor. In fact, a quad core processor could even be better than a six core or an octa core processor. The reason behind this is because the number of cores actually mean how fast tasks could be completed. Hence, the larger the number of cores, the faster the tasks could be completed. This means, octa processor will be faster compared to a hexa core processor. Though this is the case, this would only mean that one is faster than the other. This does not determine the performance. In fact, for you to be able to determine the level of performance of these processors, you will have to determine their processing power.

Another factor that you must consider is the clock speed. Octa core processor has lower clock speed compared to hexa core processor.

Of course, you would also want to check the cost and your budget if you would want to upgrade your core processor. Lastly, you must consider what type of tasks you would usually do. If you would be doing a lot of complex task simultaneously such as 4K editing, rendering, gaming and streaming HD videos, then octa core would be much more recommendable.
