The year has started badly for WhatsApp users on BlackBerry and Windows Phone devices. Certainly, there will not be many, but the irreducible of both platforms should change their device if they wish to continue using the messaging platform, since WhatsApp is no longer compatible with BlackBerry and Windows Phone.
According to CNET , WhatsApp has completed support for older mobile operating systems , including Windows Phone 8, BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 .
The company explained in a note that “these platforms do not offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand the features of our application in the future.” For those who still use one of these affected mobile devices, WhatsApp recommends that they ” upgrade to a newer version of the operating system , to a device with Android 4.0 or higher, an iPhone running iOS 7, or a Windows Phone 8.1 or higher to that can continue to use WhatsApp. ”
The news is not surprising. The company already informed users in February 2016 of the decision to stop supporting certain operating systems. For those who wish to keep their old chats , the platform remembers that it is not possible to transfer chat history between platforms, but you can attach a chat history to an email.
The measurement of WhatsApp is further evidence of the inability of BlackBerry and Microsoft to achieve some impact in the current smartphone market. BlackBerry ceded the rights to use its brand to the devices of China TCL, while Microsoft gave up much of its mobile efforts.
