2021 Toyota C-HR earns IIHS Top Safety Pick award

2021 Toyota C-HR Earns IIHS Top Safety Pick Award

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has announced that the 2021 Toyota C-HR has earned its Top Safety Pick award. This is the first time that the small crossover has received the award, but it still misses out on the higher Plus rating.

The 2021 C-HR comes standard with Toyota’s Safety Sense 2.5 driver assistance suite, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking and automatic high beams. The pedestrian detection system with the standard front crash prevention system avoided collisions at 12 and 25 mph.

The IIHS says that in the vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluation, it avoided hitting the dummy or slowed substantially to mitigate the force of impact in its testing.

The 2021 C-HR did not qualify for the Top Safety Pick Plus rating because the headlights on the base LE and mid-range XLE trim levels received a Poor rating, which provided inadequate visibility on both sides of the road on both low- and high-beam settings. The good news is that the curve-adaptive LED projector headlights included with the Limited trim earn a good rating.
