Jeep has starting taking orders for the 2018 Wrangler with the 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder and now we know the price difference between the 3.6L V6 and the 2.0L. The turbocharged 2.0L adds an extra $1,000 compared to the 3.6L V6. $1k may now sound too bad, but the four-cylinder is also only available with the 8-speed automatic, which means that the base 2.0L adds $3k over a base 3.6L with the manual transmission.
The 2.0L four-cylinder generates 270 hp and 295 lb-ftof torque, while the standard 3.6LPentastar V6 generates 285 hp and 260 lb-ft. of torque. Jeep hasn’t announced the fuel economy specs for the 2.0L, so we don’t yet know if the few extra MPGs are worth the extra premium. The good thing is that the four-cylinder features the eTorque hybrid system, which gives the four-cylinder engine the ability to shut off while coasting and at stops.
If you’re waiting for the diesel-powered Wrangler, you’ll have to wait until next year when the Wrangler gets a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 with 260 hp and 442 lb-ft. of torque.
