With more and more companies taking to Social Media to make their business not only stand out, but reach a wider audience they may not have done previously, now really is the time to throw yourself into the 21st century and jump on that band wagon too!
Tell the world who you are
Yes, its going to take time for your network to begin growing with Social media. All too often companies don’t see results straight away and after a few months, their efforts become less and less until they stop trying altogether. Research has shown it takes on average 8 months to 1 year to really get the hang of social media.
Firstly, start by making a plan. You need to tell people who you are and how you can help them. Think about what you want to achieve through social media, is to gain interest, gather data, promote products/services. Ultimately you want to create engagement. Consider why people would want to follow you, what kind of content do you want to post.
Don’t be afraid to be yourself on social media, nothing gains engagement like a funny, well written post. People very often connect to the person writing them and in turn connect with the company too.
Think about who you follow on social media currently and which brands are going viral, very often this is a funny, personality driven post or a video. People don’t want to see the same thing, pushed out by the same industry in their newsfeed. You need to keep it fresh!
Show appreciation and share the love
No business can do it all by themselves and social media lends it self to being able to support other businesses and individuals who have helped you, guided you or worked with you. Connect with these people, thank them publicly, share posts they have created themselves. Chances are if they have helped your business, your followers will also be interested in what they have to say. No doubt if you share their post, they will reciprocate, meaning you are being advertised to a whole new audience!
Stand out and be visual
Like selecting something to eat, if it looks ropey chances are you aren’t going to be ordering that for your dinner. Social Media is no different, create engagement using images. Consumers often have a snippet of time where they quickly scroll through their newsfeeds to catch up, take advantage of this. Having a concise image will grab their attention, making them stop and take notice. A post that is more like a blog than a quick few lines is not going to register with someone in a rush.
Plan you posts
Think about what you want to post, if you spend some time planning ahead and ensuring you have all the content you need for your posts, you can post consistently – consistent posts get more results. There is no excuse not to plan ahead!
