We’ll be needing the steps above to build our new site. Let us use these easy steps to get you a fully built blog. Okay, let’s begin with step 1.
Step – Select a good blog platform
Where you build your blog matters a lot before you select your platform there are certain things you need to consider.
The most popular and massive platform you may have heard of is WordPress.
I recommend WordPress to both novice and professional bloggers as it is loaded with loads of plugins and add-ons.
This makes it very easy to build even with little or no knowledge of HTML codes.
Although WordPress has Millions of active users, there are alternative blogging platforms and they include;
Blogger – Free unlimited Hosting and the best alternative to WordPress.
Tumblr – Interesting and easy setup and use.
The above platforms are good, but I recommend you go with WordPress because of the below reasons:
- Easy to set up even with little knowledge HTML, coding and programming
- Many free plugins, add-ons, and themes to select from
- They provide instant support in case you get stranded. With the easy setup am sure you won’t.
- A widget can easily be set even without visiting the theme editor.
- Navigation is easy and visitors can share articles and also drop feedback (except restricted).
Step 2: A good web host for your blog matters a lot
This is where it all matters, the decision you take at this junction matters a lot. Now you need to decide either to get free or unlimited hosting.
Hey, let’s slow down a bit! What is hosting all about? Hosting serves as a storage medium for your blog. There are different types of blogs you can choose from.
Shared hosting – can serve more than one blogs.
Virtual Private Server Hosting – can mimic a dedicated server usually within a shared hosting environment
Dedicated Server Hosting – this grants you full access to the server that you store your blog.

Although, I recommend this for those who don’t want to create a professional blog, because of these reasons:
You won’t have full control over your site
Owning a free blog on a free hosting platform is like paying house rent. You like in an apartment but it is not fully yours.
There will be restrictions on some features such as Domain name, limited monetization, and your entire blog.
Domain name – the domains you get is a hosted domain and not a custom one.
For instance, if this site is hosted on a free hosting the blog address would be any of the following:
- howtotechworld.wordpress.com
- howtotechworld.blogspot.com
- howtotechworld.tumblr.com
Step 3 – Choose a good domain name and Set up your blog
Aside from a good hosting platform, the domain is another important factor you should consider.
Remember, this applies to the custom domain and self-hosting.
I am going to assume you chose WordPress and I still recommend for you.
Before we proceed any further, the terms below are important as you will need them every day on your blogging journey.
Domain: The site domain is simply the Uniformed Resource Locator (URL) of your site. Example: howtotechworld.com (Howtotechworld.com is the domain). Simple as ABC! Right?
Hosting: Web hosting is a service that provides the required technology for your website to appear on the internet. It serves as both the storage and output medium for your site.
I recommend you use Godaddy Host. The site offers free coupon codes, discounts and a free custom domain for new websites.
My website is hosted on Godaddy as well as my domain and so far I got no complaints.
Godaddy hosting is one of the cheapest (you get $12 a year for domain and hosting for as low as $4.99 per month).
But first-time buyers get a free domain after buying a hosting.
Sounds good right?
Probably, you have decided on the web hosting for your blog, go ahead and continue with the purchase. There you can install WordPress through the cPanel.
The WP installation will start automatically after a “one-click“.
But be sure you fill the required details and make your password easy to remember but difficult for a third party.
Wait till the WordPress installation is complete, visit the wp-admin page to continue.
The WP-Admin page most times is www.yourblogdomain.com/wp-admin, you can now choose to design or create a new post.
Step 4 – Design Your Blog To Your Own Taste
This requires your design technique.
You own the blog now, you choose exactly the way you want it to look.
To change the theme, scroll down to Appearance >> Themes >> Add New >> Search theme >> Install >> Activate.
For a start, choose easy looking professional themes. To customize your theme go to Appearance >> Customize.
WordPress makes it easy to switch themes, anytime you change your theme, you won’t lose any content.
Remember, you should design your blog to suit your niche and personality.
Make your blog user-friendly if you want people to return and follow.
Difficult blogs could drive away your visitors. After all, there are lots of other sources of resource online.
Now is the time to create and publish pages for your blog – the contact, privacy and about us.
