Indian Government To Counter Cyber Crime By Strengthening Surveillance and Laws

The government decided to counter cybercrimes by strengthing Surveillance and Laws in India. In last 3 years, there are 1,44,496 Cybercrime attacks were reported in the country. There are many types of cyber incident took places such as Scanning, Website hacking, Phishing, Defacements, Virus, Malware Code, and DOS attacks. To control all these attacks the Government has decided to strengthen the laws and surveillance in the country.

Today the Home Minister, Rajnath Singh has ordered to strengthening the surveillance and legal framework to check the menace. With the view of the growing incidents such as fraud Banking calls, E-wallets, etc. The issue arises in the high-level meeting where the strategies being made to check financial cybercrimes in the country were discussed.

Representatives from the various agencies and departments were present and discussed with the home minister of the current trends of financial cybercrimes taking place in the country. They also discussed the steps and Measures being taken by their agencies to overcome this challenge, a home ministry spokesperson said.

The respective agencies of the certain states also highlighted the steps and measures being taken to arrest the growing trend of cybercrime in the financial sector. It was also highlighted that both legal and technological measures and steps need to be taken to overcome the situation.

The Home Minister ordered all the agencies to take the steps and measures in a time bound manner with the coordination of all concerned agencies in this matter, The spokesperson said. It has been decided to accelerate the implementation of the cybercrime prevention initiatives in these agencies along with steps and measures to acquire cyber forensics types of equipment. It was also decided that an inter-ministerial committee will be set up to identify the action points and monitor the implementation of the law.

The Government will also take the steps of building capacity of various stakeholders such as judicial officers, police officers, forensic scientists, officials in the banking sector to identify and implement a key measure. As mentioned above, 11,44,496 cyber security attacks were observed in the country in last 3 years.

As per the information reported by an Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), a total number of 44,679, 49,455 and 50,362 cybercrime incidents were observed and identified during 2014, 2015 and 2016. As per the data maintained by National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), a total of 5,693, 9,622 and 11,592 cybercrime cases were registered during 2013, 2014 and 2015, respectively, showing a rise of 69% during 2013 to 2014 and 20% increase during 2014 to 2015.
