How to Fix a Disabled iPad

How to Fix a Disabled iPad (in 10 Minutes or Less!)

Accidentally forgot your Ipad pin? Or maybe you left the iPad with your kids to play some games, only to get it back and be greeted to a nice Apple timeout. Tired late-night logins, forgetting new passwords, or too many fumbled keystrokes can also lead to an annoying iPad timeout. As you’ve probably realized by now, if you try entering in the wrong pin too many times, your iPad will be disabled. And when you really need to get back on your tablet, it can be incredibly stressful to watch yourself get locked out for longer and longer periods after every wrong attempt. But worry no more! We’re going to show you how to get back to using your iPad again.

Resetting A Disabled iPad

There are a few options to reset a Disabled Ipad, whether you’re locked out of an iPad Air, an iPad Mini, or even a Pro. It’s not uncommon for users to eventually get into a situation where they’re totally locked out of their device; and luckily, it’s also usually it’s not too difficult to fix. Below, we’ll go over a few easy steps for you to fix your login error and get your iPad working again.

Make Sure iTunes On Your Computer Is Up To Date

All of the following steps will require you to access Itunes in order to restore or reset your device back to a point where you can log in again. It’s important that your iTunes is completely up to date so the devices can work in sync.

  1. To make sure your device is up to date, within iTunes, go to the iTunes window at the top of the screen and choose Help > Check for Updates
  2. If your device is up to date you will not have any update to install at this time, however, if you’re still running an older version it will notify you with the newest version waiting to install.
  3. Follow through a few prompts and the installation will begin. Once you have confirmed your iTunes is up to date, it’s time to move on to the second next step.

Backing Up Your Device

Starting off, the easiest way to get your iPad login to reset is using an already saved backup through iTunes.

1. To begin, you’ll want to plug in your device to your laptop or computer via your USB lightning cable.

2. Now go on your computer and open iTunes. Go to the top right corner of your display, then select your device to show its properties.

3. Look for the Back Up Now button and click on it to begin your device sync. At this time, you’ll be prompted to enter your password on your iPad. Once you successfully enter your password, your iPad will open to the home screen, allowing you to log in again.

Using A Previous Backup You Have Already Stored

If you were unable to login to your device using the previous method but you do have an Itunes backup already set up, you may need to restore your device to a previous version by using your backup within Itunes.

1. If your device is not already connected, plug your device via the lightning USB cable and open iTunes.

2. In iTunes, look for the button Back Up Now and click it in order to sync and restore your device.

3. At this point, the iOS Setup Assistant will ask you to set up your iPad by clicking on “Restore from iTunes backup.” Look for your device in the iTunes menu and choose the most recent backup you have for your device.

After the previous steps, iTunes will start to begin the restore process. After a few minutes, your device will activate and give you access to your homepage on your tablet.

Going Through Recovery Mode

If you’ve tried the last two methods and still aren’t able to login or you have not yet connected your device via iTunes since getting it, you may need to move onto a full reset via recovery mode.

1. Start by disconnecting your iPad from the lightning USB cable if it is plugged in, but leaving the cable connected to your computer.

2. Turn off your iPad fully by holding the Sleep button for a few moments and sliding the red bar to shut down the device fully.

3. Next, you will want to reconnect the USB cable to your device while you hold down the Home button of your iPad. Keep the button pushed down until you see iTunes load on your computer.

4.  iTunes will notify you it has detected a device that is in recovery mode. Select OK, and the restoration process will begin.

5. Go through the prompts in the Setup Assistant until you get to “Set up your device.” Next, you’ll be given the option of choosing your backup via the available backups already set in iCloud.

After your tablet has completed the restoration process, you can disconnect it from your computer.

Once this is finished, you should find have access to log in on your iPad again without issue.
