While Google is trying to persuade publishers to create special content for searches in Stories format, Netflix is committed to providing movie trailers and serials in this format in the Netflix Mobile App.
The concept of “Stories”, pioneered by Snapchat and then copied by Facebook in all its services, is the feature we will see often in every future app or update.
The Netflix Mobile app will soon receive this feature as “Previews”, a series of short trailers that will be displayed above the normal content stream.
Netflix Previews do not deviate a lot from the concept of the original “Stories”
The service will deliver vertical videos of up to 30 seconds in the form of trailers for new movies, series, or content that may be relevant to each individual user.
These will run in sequence, and each will have a shortcut to the dedicated movie, serial or content page so you can start playing it immediately, if interested.
Previews on the Netflix mobile app will have a dedicated line, each clip being framed in a circle to differentiate from the rectangles we’ve got used to on movies and series apps and sites.
Netflix has already prepared hundreds of previews for the launch day of the new feature
At any time, each user may have up to 75 previews selected by the Netflix algorithm, which can be played in sequence automatically.
For the launch of this feature, which is set for April, Netflix claims it will have hundreds of previews, both originals and licensed content owned by partners.
The “previews” concept is not new to the Netflix service as it is already available on the smart TV Netflix app for about two years.
But the Netflix mobile app previews feature will be different from the TV one. On TV, Netflix automatically starts playing a short trailer when the user stays for more than a few seconds on a movie/series icon.
Thus, the users will get more control over the previews feature in the Netflix mobile app.
