The Mobile World Congress 2018 has demonstrated that Apple is still a leader in the smartphone market, Android device manufacturers following the design philosophy of the Iphone X on a variety of devices, whether it is needed or not. It seems, however, that Apple is already thinking of solutions for replacing the notch for the Iphone Devices in 2019.
The 2018 iPhone Devices Will Still Come Out With The Notch
Korean newspaper ETNews has published a report based on information from anonymous sources close to Apple, in which it talks about the possibility of eliminating the notch on the next generation of iPhone devices.
This means that the future 2018 three devices we’ve been hearing about lately (an enhanced iPhone X, an iPhone X Plus, and a mid-sized iPhone) will still be launched with the current iPhone notch design.
Apple thinks to new solutions to replace the notch
One of the solutions Apple thinks about is to “perforate” the OLED display in order to integrate the speakerphone, the front camera, the Face ID, the proximity sensor, and the ambient light sensors.
Thus, the screen would occupy the entire front surface of the phone and the only spaces on which nothing will be displayed will be those spaces dedicated to the front components.
It is also possible to integrate something Apple calls the “black matrix” into the OLED panel, which would make that area somehow transparent for the components to operate normally.
Other producers think about introducing a mechanical system to hide the camera
Manufacturers such as Vivo and Essential are proposing to integrate the front camera into a mechanical system that can hide it.
Whatever the case, no top maker seems to be happy with the notch which is considered only a solution of compromise that sacrifices a part of the display.
In the meantime, we shall wait and see if anything official comes up from Apple about their plans of replacing the notch for the future iPhone devices.
