Uber vs. Lyft – Choose The One That Fits You Better

Tags: uber lyft driver

People are very busy nowadays; they lack time and have to move from one place to another really fast. If they don’t own a personal car, depending on public transport means can be time-consuming. The safe and sure method to reach your destination fast will be a taxi, but what do you do if you can’t find one real fast? The alternative would be to “ride-sharing” applications like Uber and Lyft that support you in finding a car whenever you need one. Uber and Lyft are very similar.

They are gaining popularity all over the world thanks to the fact that their services are premium, drivers who rent their cars act professional, not to mention the fact that the app is easy to use. Your phone will help you find a car right next to you as soon as you fill in the address. It is understandable why people love Uber and Lyft. Although the two services have become very similar lately, some major differences still remain between them.

Let’s see how they work

Both companies work with drivers who are independent contractors. They can pick you up every time you book a car in the app. This can be done from the same place you are in without even calling, just by using a simple phone app. The cost is far more reasonable than it would be for a taxi ride on the same distance.

Also, by using both apps, you can see where the drivers are and how long it would take until they reach you, so you don’t have to wonder if the taxi is ever going to arrive. Another similarity is that both apps work in every city where they are available, you can select the location from where the car will pick you up and where it will drop you off and at the end of the race, you have the possibility to rate the driver.

Both apps allow you to choose the size of your car depending on the number of people that will use it. For example, if you are traveling with a large number of people you can book an SUV and if you are alone or two people you can book a smaller car. You also have the possibility of choosing the transportation cost – if you prefer a high-end option or a cheaper one. If there are several people that go in the same direction, each of them will get a discount.

There are only small differences between the two services

Compared to Uber, Lyft has promoted a more playful image. On the other hand, Uber is more famous in some parts of the world. However, the services are so similar, that you will be surprised to see that, sometimes, you might find Uber drivers in a car you called for Lyft and vice-versa.

How do you become a driver for both companies

Both companies select their drivers in the same way. Independent contractors with experience in driving and who own a pretty good car are selected to work for a company or both after rigorous check-ups. Lyft often annually re-runs this check, while Uber doesn’t.

What are the differences in terms of cost

The pricing differences are not very big. There are online tools like Uber Fare Estimate and Lyft Fare Estimate and with them you can see the difference in price from certain cities or regions. Also, you can estimate how much you will pay on your own ride.

Although both services have received good reviews from almost all users, Uber is known for its’ bad behavior. If you don’t care about that, you will see that, like everything else on the market, customers have surpassed the flaws in both cases and still use Uber and Lyft.
