When it comes to Android updates, things do not look too good for Android users. In fact, it is known that most smartphones receive Android updates months, or even years, after they have been released. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that right now that most popular version of Android is Android 7.0 Nougat.
Google’s developer site posted new data that reveals the preferences of Android users. For the first time, Android Nougat is on the first position. However, that does not tell us too much about its performance. Let’s see why Nougat manage to upstage Oreo in the latest data.
Android Oreo is available to few users
Normally, Android Oreo should be the most popular version since it is the most recent one and it comes with numerous additions and features. However, if we take a look at the Google data we can see that just a bit over 1% of Android devices use the latest Android version.
And that is not because this version has some major flaws, but most Android users have not received the latest update. This remains a problem for Android. In many cases, users are forced to use old versions because the new ones are not available for their devices yet.
Why is this a problem?
Unless you own a Google Pixel device, you won’t receive Android updates right away. The process takes at least a few months and that is because manufacturers have to adapt the update first. Nevertheless, it is an issue when smartphones are forced to use older Android versions.
The fact that they continue to use old versions might be damaging, or, at the very least, not convenient, as they are not able to use the latest technology. This problem has always existed, but let’s hope that it will be fixed in the future.
