Huawei Maybe Working on Kirin 820 Chip With 6nm Process

Following Friday’s new rumors about the Huawei P40, rumors are now surfacing about the new Kirin 820 chipset. It’s the successor to the high-performance mid-range smartphone chipset Kirin 810 and will power Huawei and Honor handsets coming in 2020. The information shared by MyDrivers reveals that Huawei would be actively working on the supposed Kirin 820 with the help of Samsung.

The new SoC is said to arrive with a 6-nanometer lithography process developed by Samsung. This technology raises chipset density and offers even more energy efficiency thanks to the lower power consumption required to perform operations. With even more compact size, the chip’s processing speed should also offer major improvements over its predecessor.

It is also said that the upcoming chipset would be based on Cortex-A77, but there are no details as to which cores would be developed with the architecture. Most likely the chipset should offer a 5G network support thanks to the integrated modem that Huawei should implement in the processor, with support for dual-mode 5G networks.

The report also reveals that Kirin 820 mass production is expected to start around the second quarter of 2020, between April and June, with the possibility of an announcement between June or July this year.

There is still not much information about what will be the first smartphones equipped with this chipset. However, it is very likely that the main mid-range with Kirin 810 will get updated with Huawei’s new chipset for 2020.
