iPhone Security Enhancements

Keeping up with the latest feature on your Iphone can be a bit tricky, especially since those fine folks over at Apple are continually updating iOS. Our ever-helpful Intivix team did some digging to uncover the latest and greatest features and secrets to help keep your iPhone secure.

Here we go:

#1:  USB Accessory Lockout

This feature, which became available with the iOS 12 upgrade, prevents external USB accessories from accessing content on your iPhone one hour after you’ve locked it. Cybercriminals use USBs, and in particular USB power charging stations in airports, to steal people’s data.

Activate this in Settings > Face ID & Passcode > scroll down to Allow Access When Locked and turn OFF USB Accessories.

#2. Upgrades to the Password Management System

If you’re one of those people who uses the same password for everything (by the way, DON’T BE THAT PERSON), iOS 12 will suggest secure alternatives for your password. You can now also share passwords with people over AirDrop, adding another layer of protection.

#3. Hide Private Photos

You know that feeling of dread that washes over you when you hand your phone to someone because you’re worried that they’ll look through your photos?  Well, fear no more!

You can Hide Private Photos by selecting the image(s), tapping Share, and then choosing Hide.  Now your photos are viewable only in the Albums folder and hidden from the Moments, Collections, and Years views.

#4. Finding Your Lost Device

It happens. Apple has created many ways to locate your lost iPhone. One of the newer ways is through the Health app. After setting up your Medical ID — be selective in the personal information you add — Good Samaritans can find your contact info through the Emergency link on a locked screen.

#5. Add a Face to Face ID

iOS 12 allows you to add a second face to open your phone. Could be a trusted family member or a friend or even yours if you think your appearance has changed dramatically.  Adding a second face is a great way to ensure you won’t get locked out of your phone.

Of course, we’re most concerned with the security functions of your iPhones. Apple has added a bunch of new features to make your most important accessory more functional, but make sure you take a second to tighten up your security first.
