Android P Developer is Now Available – Everything You Need To Know

Earlier this week we told you that Google is all set to launch the first Android P Developer P in mid-March. Today, Google has launched the developer preview of Android P for all the Google Pixel Smartphones. So if you have a Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 or Pixel 2XL you can install the developer preview on your smartphone.

This is the first time that no Nexus device is part of the developer preview program. Google will launch the Android P at Google I/O 2018 in May. It will showcase all the new features of the operating system at the Google I/O and will finally roll-out the Android P later this year in October.

Android P Features – Notch

As leaked before, Android P will come with native support for a notch on the top of the display. Also as there are many different Android smartphone makers and everyone will be making the “notch” differently, Google has added support for many different types of notches. It can big as the one found on the iPhone X or a small circular one find on the Essential phone.

Ever since Apple launched the iPhone X last year, we have already seen many devices going for the notch. The upcoming LG’ flagship the LG G7 or whatever they decide to call it will also reportedly come with a notch. The native notch support on Android P will definately result in a better experience for the users.

Improved Notifications – Messaging

With every new version of Android, we see some kind of improvements to the notifications on the operating system. But with Android P Google has revamped the messaging notifications. First of all, you can reply to the messages via the notification shade only and it also comes with Google smart reply. With this, you can just tap on a smart reply by Google and you are done.

Instead of showing the just new message, now it will show multiple messages from the same conversation for you to get a better context of the conversation right from the notifications. Even the messages with photos and gifs are shown in the notification with the image.

Autofill, Indoor Location, Privacy, HDR Video Profiles

Google launched the Autofill feature with Android Oreo and has now improved the feature in Android P.  In the new update Google will offer the bug fixes for the previous problems and will improve the overall user experience for better use of the AutoFill Feature. Google Maps are great when it comes to Outdoor location tracking.

Now with Android P Google has improved the accuracy of the indoor positioning without the need of GPS. In short, apps will be able to track better indoor positioning of your smartphone.  One of the biggest change is that Google will be restricting the use of sensors, cameras, and mic when the app goes idle.

So if you are not using an app it will not be able to listen to your conversations via the microphone or use the camera to see you. Android P now comes with built-in support for HDR VP9 Profile 2. Which means it now supports HDR-enabled movies which you can deliver via Youtube and other sources on HDR capable devices

While we don’t know the name of the operating system. We are expecting it to be named as Android P – Peppermint. We will know about the name later this year but Google I/O will be exciting to know about the new features of the operating system. Stay tuned to Sid Tech for more tech updates.
