Samsung has launched a new SSD for its enterprise customers called the Samsung Z SSD. This new SSD comes with 800 gigabytes (GB) of storage. Samsung says that is new SZ985 Z-SSD is made for most advanced enterprise applications including AI analysis and supercomputing.
Samsung will be introducing this new SSD at ISSCC 2018 (International Solid-State Circuits Conference), which will be held in San Francisco starting 11th February. Samsung will launch two variants of the SSD, one with 240GB of storage and one with 800GB of storage. Along with this Samsung will also introduce related technologies at the event.

“With our leading-edge 800GB Z-SSD, we expect to contribute significantly to market introductions of next-generation supercomputing systems in the near future, enabling improved IT investment efficiency and exceptional performance,” said Jinman Han, senior vice president, Memory Product Planning & Application Engineering at Samsung Electronics. “We will continue to develop next-generation Z-SSDs with higher density and greater product competitiveness, in order to lead the industry in accelerating the growth of the premium SSD* market.”
Every big company is using AI in some manner or the other to manage big data and other supercomputing tasks and according to Samsung, this Z-SSD is made for this type of workflow only. It comes with a high-speed data cache and log data processing. The new SSD guarantees up to 30 drive write per day for 5 days or a total of 42 petabytes.

Translating it into an understandable form, it means you can store a total of around 8.4 million 5GB full-HD movies during a period of five years. We will see many supercomputers and companies using this new Samsung Z-SSD for making computing faster. Stay tuned to Sid Tech for more tech updates.
