The Mercane Transboard Turns Heads in Electric Scooter World

The Mercane Transboard is the latest addition to the Electric Scooter market. It’s unique design and futuristic aesthetic has generated interest among riders and the press.

The Transboard is an Electric scooter built with two wheels in the front and one wheel in the back, like a reverse tricycle where the rider stands instead of sits (and there’s no big wheel!).

Given the hype, the first question you may ask yourself is, “Who the heck is Mercane?”

Good question!

While it’s unclear exactly where the company’s roots are, what is known is they produce in China, export from Hong Kong, advertise to Westerners, and offer their site in both English and Korean.

While most LEVs are produced in China, many LEV companies are based in the U.S. and have their customer support staff in the U.S. Mercane Wheels is no different. Their contact info lists them as Los Angeles.

Let’s take a look at their history.

About Mercane Wheels

According to their website, Mercane Wheels was founded by an entrepreneur/inventor who, while sitting in rush hour traffic, witnessed someone crash an electric scooter. Watching the rider crash and experience pain from the fall inspired him to invent an electric scooter that would be safe to drive. He also wanted it to be easy to transport when not being ridden.

These ideas led him to create the Transboard Electric Scooter.

His concerns for safety led him down an R&D path that ended with the final Transboard design – what they call the rev-tricycle system. We’ll discuss the specs more later.

The Transboard electric scooter definitely looks sturdier than other electric scooters, with a wider frame and footpads. From its design, it’s easy to imagine it being safer for everyday riding. You won’t fall from a loss of balance at least, which is an improvement.

Transboard Electric Scooter’s Kickstarter Campaign

Mercane received funding for their Transboard via a Kickstarter campaign.  Their campaign had a 50 K goal. So far they’ve risen close to 25 K.

The crowdfunding campaign has the following breakdown for donors:

Transboard Electric Scooter Specifications

The Transboard is built with a double wishbone suspension, which absorbs shock from the front two wheels. The rev-tricycle structure makes it wider than most electric scooters, which has its ups and downs. Yes, it’s sturdier, but it also takes up more space. While, the scooter does fold up into the convenient size of a piece of luggage, there are smaller electric scooters out there that can be folded and carried in one arm.

It is powered by a 350 W motor and makes use of li-ion batteries. The electric scooter has a max speed and range of 20 mph and can conquer hills with a grade of 15 degrees.

Aside from the double wishbone suspension, the Transboard is unique in having cruise control, an electric and rear foot brake, and 10-inch aluminum alloy wheels. It also features 3 different speed settings, LED display, and LED lamp.

The Transboard electric scooter has basically every feature you’ve come to expect from a premiere electric scooter plus a few extras.

While the scooter looks cool and appears to be built from good parts, without a test ride, it’s too early to tell.
