Organization

It is a financial services company providing consultancy, auditing, accounting, book keeping and other finance related services like budgeting to its customers.

Challenges

The existing server infrastructure of the firm faced the end of its lifespan. The company needed a new server, and also wanted to have new features and abilities in the data storage infrastructure to protect the data efficiently. It required additional data security and high availability for the data.

The company wanted to deploy a secure back up target storage where they could store their back up data. They wanted a solution on premise, so that they had more control and minimum risk of data breach and other form of data loss. “We deal with highly sensitive and confidential data of our clients, and do not want it to be stored off site in order to assure data protection” said Jones, the data storage Administrator.

The existing storage infrastructure of the firm was lacking the modern data services which could have assured enhanced data protection and security.

Solution

StoneFly’s technical support team came up with the perfect solution for the firm, StoneFly’s NAS storage as back up target storage. The specific hardware architecture which was selected for the firm was Dual Node Shared Nothing NAS Appliance.

In this solution, 2 exactly same appliances were clustered together with nothing shared between them.

A 24- bay 4U Rackmount NAS appliance was suggested to the firm which made the backup target storage Future Proof by offering Terabytes to Petabytes of storage with expansion units.

Results

StoneFly NAS Appliance proved to be more than beneficial and useful for the firm as it had all the features and abilities to cater the challenges faced by the firm. It provided them with redundancy, data protection and features which made sure that data loss did not have a mere chance to compromise business continuity.

Highly Redundant Clustered NAS Appliance

The NAS appliance offered two appliances which are clustered together for the purpose of high redundancy. Even if one appliance fails, the other one keeps the business running while the other appliance can be recovered. It assisted the firm in business continuity and enabled it to have data redundancy which was their primary challenge.

The Addition of Fault Tolerance to Infrastructure

The Fault Tolerant nature of the data storage infrastructure provided the firm with an environment that was resistant to faults and failures. The capability of the system to switch to the other appliance and resist the fault was something very much needed by the firm to make sure that their financial data is accessible and useful 24/7 year-around.

The solution provided by StoneFly enhanced the data protection. It offered two appliances with all the components to provide storage and compute for making sure that the data had an extra layer of protection over the built in data services offered. Instead of keeping the data in one appliance, it was stored in two similar appliances, having the same capabilities and features deployed.

Featuristic, Secure Data Storage Having Snapshots and WORM

The delta based snapshot assures that the system state is always retrievable and data is never really lost even if a failure, malicious attack or any other incident has happened. It enables the firm to get the restored state of the system in less time as it is a change based snapshot which only takes the snapshot of the changes that have occurred in the storage system.

Moreover, these snapshots are also immutable which make it impossible for the snapshot to be edited or changed by anyone, once it is taken. It enhances the data protection for the sensitive and mission critical data of the firm.

The WORM is a technology which enables the finance firm to have a “Write Once Read Many” feature in the storage infrastructure. It makes sure that once data has been written, cannot be edited or changed.
