The Domain name system (DNS) is primarily used for the host name and e-mail destination to IP addresses. It imposes a hierarchical, domain based naming scheme. It is helpful in translating the ASCII addresses into binary numbers and vice- versa. The top level domain comes into two flavours: -
1. Generic domains: - They are based on the nature of the organization.
For example: edu, com, gov, int, mil, org, etc.
2. Country based domains: - The country based domains include one entry for every country according to the standard ISO 3166.
