Moto G5 Plus Review


Moto G series Smartphones are Popular in India Since the launch of Moto G; Moto has introduced Moto G5 and G5 Plus at MWC 2017. Moto G5 Plus launched in India at a starting price of Rs 14,999. It comes with Snapdragon 625 Chipset,12MP Rear Camera. Is it worth the price? Let's Find in our Full Review of 4GB RAM model.

On Design Moto G5 Plus is the first smartphone in Moto G Series to come with metal body last year Moto G4 Plus has a Plastic body. On the front, there is 5.2-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection,  Moto branding, front ported speaker, proximity and ambient light sensors above the display 5MP front-facing camera with OmniVision OV5695 sensor, f/2.2 aperture.There is no Physical Notification LED, but there is Moto Display which shows Remaining battery, Time, Miss call info and more


Below the Display there is a physical home button which is equipped with a fingerprint sensor It also comes with On Screen buttons which can be disabled, there is One Button Nav feature that allows users to navigate through the screens using just the fingerprint scanner on the phone.




On the right there is a power button and volume rockers, The dual SIM slot is present on Top, G5 Plus comes with two nano SIM Slot and MicroSD card support.Micro USB port, 3,5mm audio jack, noise cancellation microphone is situated at the bottom. There is nothing on the Left side; there is a Metal frame on the edges.

Coming to Rear, there is a 12MP rear camera with dual-tone LED flash Moto dimple which looks like just sticker now. Moto G5 Plus measures 150.2x74x7.9 mm and weighs 155 grams. It also has water-repellent nanocoating.There is curve body on Back which gives good grip in hand can be used in single hand. Moto G5 Plus also comes with Moto Actions, the Overall build quality of Moto G5 Plus is good.

On Display  Moto G5 Plus comes with 5.2-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection which is smaller compared to Moto G4 Plus. It produces good color and Viewing angles in Indoor and Outdoor conditions but struggles when in bright sunlight sometimes we need to turn on full brightness. One advantage of Moto G5 Plus Display is it comes with Gorilla Glass 3 protection which is not available in other smartphones like Honor 6X, Redmi Note 4 at a similar price.

Moto G5 Plus is powered by a 2GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 625 processor which is similar to Redmi Note 4 and comes with 3GB RAM with 16GB storage, 4GB RAM with 32GB storage out of which 24GB is available for the user, further expandable memory up to 128 GB with microSD. On AnTuTu Moto G5 Plus scores 64115 points, On Geekbench 786 on a single core and 3733 points on Multicore. In terms of Day to Day performance, there was no heating issue also while playing some normal Games, but when it comes to High-end games Phone gets warm while playing for longer time, This is normal nowadays as most of the Phones comes with Metal Back but if you have case cover on Phone, you won't notice heating. Multitasking, RAM management was also good with Moto G5 Plus. Overall performance is Fast and smooth there was no issue there is also Redmi Note 4 which also has similar performance.


Software


Moto G5 Plus runs on Android 7.0 Nougat Out of Box. It also comes with Google assistant. As always it comes with Stock Android and has moto apps preloaded. It has One button Nav, Quick Capture, Chop twice for flashlight and  Moto Display feature Quick Capture allows Instantly launch the camera by twisting your wrist twice. Twist twice again and switch to the front camera. Flick your wrist twice quickly to launch the flashlight and repeat to turn it off. No need to unlock your phone or take off your gloves to get the light that you need. One Nav button  Functions are we can use Fingerprint Scanner as Gestures Swipe left to Go Back, Tap to Home,  Swipe from Right to left to go back, Left to right to open recent apps, Tap and Hold to enable lock screen, Tap and Hold sensor until you feel long buzz to open Google  assistant. There are also other Features Like Multitasking, Shrink screen, you can also enable System UI tuner which let users change status bar options and more. There was Force App stop issue with Some Apps this could be fixed with next software update apart from this there was no issue UI runs smooth and fast. which is expected to get Android 7.1.1 and Android O update in Future



Camera

Moto G5 Plus comes with a 12MP rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, Dual Pixel Autofocus, Sony IMX362 sensor with  f/1.7 aperture, 4K video recording and 5MP front-facing camera with OmniVision OV5695 sensor, f/2.2 aperture. Camera App on Moto G5 Plus includes HDR, Slow motion, professional mode, Panorama. The front camera also includes HDR. Moto G5 Plus can Shoot up to 4K Videos, 1080P 60fps, 1080P 30fps with front facing camera.  Front camera Samples are Decent not that Great. Rear Camera offers good images in Daylight and Low light conditions there is a Focusing issue while capturing macro shoot. Overall Camera Performance is Great at the price point is available.

Fingerprint Scanner Setup, Working



Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz), Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS. There is No Compass sensor available on G5 Plus it comes with NFC which might be useful Once Android Pay is launched in India. Moto G5 Plus also has Dedicated MicroSD SIM card Slot and Also support OTG Drive. Coming to Audio Moto G5 Plus has a speaker on earpiece which is loud and clear not among the best. Moto G5 Plus has a built-in FM Radio app which can be used without plugging in a pair of earphones though they definitely help in improving antenna performance. Talking about cellular call reception Moto G5 Plus had no issue call quality was loud and clear there was No issue. One SIM support 4G at a time and Second supports 3G. Reliance Jio VolTE works Fine without any issue.

Moto G5 Plus is packed with a 3000mAh Battery which is non-removable and supports Turbo Charger which lets you charge Phone from 0-100 in 2hour 10min whereas 90% in 90 Min. Moto G5 Plus is able to deliver One Day for Battery life on Heavy use like Playing Games, Listening Music, Social Network, Dual SIM with Data.If you are not a heavy user device can last for More than One day.

Moto G5 Plus come in Lunar Gray and Fine Gold colors, available exclusively on Flipkart priced at Rs 14999 for 3GB RAM model and Rs 16,999 for 4GB RAM model Also there is Redmi Note 4 which cost just Rs 12,999. So which 1 should you buy? If you want Stock Android, good Camera, Fast Software update then Moto G5 Plus will be a Good Option Moto G5 Plus price is on the higher side looking for a Bigger battery, Similar performance then Redmi Note 4 and Lenovo P2 are other Options available.
