Smart TVs Expected To See Huge Growth In Digital Assistants

You can already find Siri on the Apple TV set-top box, Bixby on Samsung’s latest TVs and the Google Assistant on a myriad of models from LG and Sony, but the technology is expected to see explosive growth by 2023. In fact, according to Juniper Research, smart TVs will represent the fastest growing platform for voice assistants over the next five years.

There were an estimated 2.5 billion devices in the world with Digital Voice Assistants at the end of 2018, but that number is tiny in comparison to where we’re going to be in five years’ time. That’s because Juniper Research estimates that there will be eight billion devices with a smart assistant; although the firm does admit that many of those will be smartphones with voice assistants baked into the OS, like Google Assistant on Android and Siri on iOS.

While TVs are expected to grow the fastest, they’re not the only product category set to be taken over by voice assistants. According to Juniper, the following three categories are set to become proliferated with the likes of the Google Assistant, Alexa and Siri over the next five years:

1. Smart TVs – 121.3% CAGR

2. Smart speakers – 41.3% CAGR

3. Wearables – 40.2% CAGR

The estimates are all part of Juniper Research’s new Digital Voice Assistants: Platforms, Revenues & Opportunities 2019 – 2023 whitepaper. In the paper, it argues that competition from China will begin to have a stake in the global game over the next five years, with the firm estimating that China will have 78% of voice assistant apps installed globally in the next five years.
