All The AirPlay 2 TVs Announced At CES 2019

Apple has officially confirmed that leading TV brands are set to support AirPlay 2, the casting technology that is available on both iOS and Mac OS. This is the first time the firm has expanded AirPlay 2 beyond audio equipment, and could become as ubiquitous as Google’s Chromecast technology, which is available on the majority of smart TVs currently on the market.

At CES 2019, big name brands lined up one by one to support AirPlay 2, and they include the following:

Samsung

Samsung was the first out of the gate to announce support for AirPlay 2, and it was also the biggest adopter of the technology. While its chief rivals opted to only put the technology on their latest models, Samsung has confirmed that it will be making AirPlay 2 available on last year’s models as well. There’s no word on when the software update will hit, but pretty much the majority of Samsung TVs will gain support.

As for specifics, Apple has confirmed the following models will be compatible with AirPlay 2:

  • Samsung Q Series (2019)
  • Samsung 8 Series (2019)
  • Samsung 7 Series (2019)
  • Samsung 6 Series (2019)
  • Samsung 5 Series (2019)
  • Samsung 4 Series (2019/2018)
  • Samsung The Frame (2019)
  • Samsung Serif (2019)
  • Samsung Q900R (2018)
  • Samsung Q9F (2018)
  • Samsung Q8D (2018)
  • Samsung Q8C (2018)
  • Samsung Q8F (2018)
  • Samsung Q7F (2018)
  • Samsung Q6F (2018)
  • Samsung NU8000 (2018)
  • Samsung NU8070 (2018)
  • Samsung NU8500 (2018)
  • Samsung NU7020 (2018)
  • Samsung NU7100 (2018)
  • Samsung NU7120 (2018)
  • Samsung NU7300 (2018)
  • Samsung NU7400 (2018)
  • Samsung NU7500 (2018)
  • Samsung JS5000 (2018)

LG

LG quickly followed Samsung with an AirPlay 2 announcement of its own, but it is keeping the technology as an exclusive feature for those buying a TV in 2019. While that’s disappointing for anyone who invested in an LG TV in 2018, there are plenty of new LG models to choose from – including a TV that can disappear through the touch of a button.

The 2019 LG TVs set to receive AirPlay 2 are as follows:

  • LG Z9 OLED (2019)
  • LG SM99 LCD (2019)
  • LG W9 OLED (2019)
  • LG R9 OLED (2019)
  • LG E9 OLED (2019)
  • LG C9 OLED (2019)
  • LG SM9X NanoCell (2019)
  • LG SM8X NanoCell (2019)
  • LG UHD UM7X (2019)

Sony

Sony is also adding AirPlay 2 to its range of TVs launching in 2019, although like LG, this won’t be a feature that will be available through a software update to older TVs. Both Sony’s LCD and OLED models will be receiving the functionality, although it’s only the higher end models.

The 2019 Sony TVs set to receive AirPlay 2 are as follows:

  • Sony Z9G (2019)
  • Sony A9G (2019)
  • Sony X950G (2019)
  • Sony X850G (2019)

Vizio

While not available in the UK, Vizio has been quick to adopt many new technologies. It’s an avid supporter of Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision, while it has also supported Chromecast and the Google Assistant in many of its models. It is also the most bullish when it comes to AirPlay 2, with the company not only bringing it to its 2019 TVs, but also making it available to both 2018 and 2019 models.

The full range of Vizio TVs supporting AirPlay 2 is as follows:

  • Vizio P-Series Quantum (2019 and 2018)
  • Vizio P-Series (2019, 2018 and 2017)
  • Vizio M-Series (2019, 2018 and 2017)
  • Vizio E-Series (2019, 2018 and 2017)
  • Vizio D-series (2019, 2018 and 2017)

Others

We’re still waiting to hear from many of the smaller TV manufacturers to see if they will follow the big brands in supporting AirPlay 2.
