JVC Announces 4K HDR DLP Home Theatre Projector

JVC already has a 4K HDR projector in its line-up, but it uses D-ILA technology, which is a sort of hybrid between LCD and DLP. Now, the company has launched a brand-new model in the form of the  LX-UH1, and it uses DLP technology. It also features a compact design and wide Lens Shift to suit a broad range of home installations, and comes in at a reasonable price point.

One of the first ‘mainstream’ brands to really deliver serious products into the home cinema market, JVC is looking to build on its already considerable popularity in the sector with this new beamer.

JVC says this 4K HDR DLP projector is looking to extend the brand’s reputation for strong image quality to a wider audience of home theatre enthusiasts.

The new JVC LX-UH1 is a 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD) projector that uses newly-developed TRP DMD technology to deliver 4K images, and offers HDR support, 2,000 lumens, Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 100,000:1, with a wide vertical and Horizontal Lens Shift.

JVC says the new 0.47in TRP digital micromirror device (DMD) is a 4K UHD DLP chipset that, in combination with the LX-UH1’s high-quality optical system, delivers crisp 4K (3840 x 2160) video. An RGBRGB colour wheel completes the imaging set up for this new machine.

‘The LX-UH1 supports 100% of Rec.709 colour space (BT.2020 compatible) and displays HDR content with outstanding brightness, contrast and colour’, according to the maker. The projector supports both HDR10 and Hybrid Log Gamma for broadcasts and streaming services. When viewing HDR content users have the option to engage the two-position automatic aperture to get the best possible image quality realising Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 100,000:1.

The projector includes two HDMI inputs, including one that features the full speed/full spec HDMI/HDCP2.2 standard and capable of handling data transfer rates up to 18Gbps. There is also an RS232C interface and a 12-volt screen trigger output.

To accommodate a wide range of installations, the LX-UH1 provides a ±60% vertical lens shift and ±23% horizontal lens shift. In combination with the projector’s 1.6x wide zoom lens, this enhanced versatility helps to make installation much easier. The LX-UH1 will be available in UK from May in choice of two colours–Black and White.

This new product is an addition to the company’s existing line up (D-ILA projectors LA-X9900BE, DLA-X7900B/WE, DLA-X5900B/WE) which are built around D-ILA technology and is expected to come in at around £2.5K.

JVC tells Ce Pro Europe that distribution will be taken care of by Habitech and Invision UK for the UK market. There are whispers that it might make an appearance at the EI Live! show too.
