Canary Security Cameras Now Work With Amazon Alexa

The Amazon Echo Spot and Echo Show are now the perfect companion for anyone who owns a Canary security camera. That’s because users can now take advantage of Alexa voice control to showcase the camera’s feed on either one of those devices.

Since the launch of Alexa devices with screens, smart security camera manufacturers have been quick to allow users to view their camera feeds on said screens. Nest and Netgear’s Arlo are currently the dominant players with voice control functionality for their security cameras thus far, although Canary will be a welcome addition to consumers looking for a bit more choice.

Canary currently offer three different cameras, in the form of the standard Canary, the Canary Flex, and Canary View. The standard Canary is more than just a camera, however, offering an all-in-one solution for home security. The Canary View is a similar, albeit budget, option. It’s sadly not yet available to purchase, however.

This is technically not the first time that Canary devices have been capable of taking voice commands, although previously it wasn’t directly compatible with Alexa. Instead users had to take advantage of a workaround, typically using IFTTT commands. Those workarounds have limitations, however, and it wasn’t possible to showcase footage on an Alexa-enabled device.

The Canary skill is now available through the Alexa app on iOS and Android.
