Optoma to unveil 4K UHD laser projector at Bristol Show

Lots of show news around at the moment, away from the mega shows of ISE and CES, Sound and Vision, The Bristol Show is well worth a visit, especially on the Friday when it tends to be a little less busy than the weekend days.

Optoma is using the show to give what will be one of the first chances to see its new 4K Uhd Laser Projector. The UHZ65 is a laser based machine and has the same high-end specifications as the UHD65 – which recently picked up ‘Best projector £2000-£4000’ at the What Hi-Fi Awards 2017.

The machine will project onto a Grandview Fixed Frame 4K screen, fitted with the latest material technology certified for 4K by ISF. The fabric is coated in 1micron diamond optical microgrooves capable of reproducing 4K resolution. This coating along with the white base layer combine to reflect the original image from the projector with detail and accuracy says Optoma.

Equipped with high-quality laser illumination, the maker says the UHZ65 provides increased efficiency to maintain consistent brightness, superior colour performance, instant on/off and a life span of up to 20,000 hours.

Capitalising on the fast switching speed of the DLP chip with XPR technology and advanced image processing, 8.3 million pixels are delivered to the screen without alignment issues, especially critical at 4K, with four times as many pixels as 1080p.

With its full 8.3 million on-screen pixels, the new model meets the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) requirements for 4K UHD and complies with the CTA High Dynamic Range (HDR) compatible display standards. The UHZ65 also fully supports HDCP 2.2, so users can enjoy the growing choice of 4K content.

With its black casing and 3000 lumens, the model is designed for dedicated cinema spaces. The machine also boasts PureMotion frame-interpolation technology which tackles motion blur or image judder, even in high-speed action films or fast-paced sports.

Optoma says the machine is whisper quiet and comes with integrated speakers that provide powerful 8W audio. S/PDIF audio output is also included, enabling connection to external sound systems.

Installation is simple with vertical lens shift, 1.6x zoom and a choice of connection options such as two HDMI ports and Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) for compatible phones and tablets. In addition, the UHZ65 can be turned into a smart projector by connecting a HDMI dongle like the Google Chromecast or Amazon Fire TV to access media services and stream TV shows, films and video clips, play games and share photos on the big screen.

Sound and Vision, The Bristol Show takes place at the Marriot Hotel in Bristol from February 23 to 25.
