Anthony Joshua Biography – About the British-Born Nigerian Boxer

Anthony Joshua is a 26-year old British professional boxer who was born in Watford, Hertfordshire, to his Nigerian parents, Yeta, and Robert Joshua. Joshua is of Irish ancestry from his fathers side (specifically Yoruba) while his mother is of Nigeria descent.

He grew up in a boarding in Hertfordshire, England. However, following the divorce of hos parents, he came back to UK to join Kings Langley Secondary School, where he grew up all by himself. The professional boxer made his debut together with cousin, Ben Lleyemi, in 2013.

Educational Background

Joshua attended an unnamed boarding school in Ijebu Ode, Ogun state during his early life in Nigeria but after the dad and mum divorced in 2001 when he was still 12, returned to the UK halfway through Year Seven to join Kings Langley Secondary School. He also completed his higher school education in England where he caught the attention of professional boxing bodies.

Professional Career

Anthony Joshua was a bricklayer before taking up boxing full-time. He excelled at football and athletics and broke the Year Nine 100m record with a time of 11.6 seconds.

Joshua started his career as a boxer in 2007, aged 18, when his cousin encouraged him to take it up. His club, Finchley ABC in Barnet, North London, is also home to professional heavyweight Dereck Chisora. Joshua won the 2009 and 2010 Haringey Box Cup. Joshua won the senior ABA Championships in 2010.

As an upcoming boxer, Joshua won numerous bouts and competitions which made him a kid to watch out for – which include;

Joshua made his professional debut on 5 October 2013 at the O2 Arena, London.  in a successful WBA super-bantamweight title defence against Yoandris Salinas, beating Italian Emanuelue Leo by a TKO in the first round.
