Tesla Solar Roof: is it affordable for the average person?

The trend today is undeniable. Renewable energy is the world’s future. Solar energy is among the types of energy source that is technically free and limitless. All you need is to invest in equipment that is capable of harnessing the seeming unlimited power of the sun; the solar energy can either be directly or indirectly received from the sun. Using solar energy is one of the most viable ways to use renewable energy.

Today, we see innovation in the solar panel industry. Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk has brought a new look to solar panels; he wasn’t kidding when he claimed that the Tesla solar Roof is sure to look better than the ordinary roof. If you take a look at the roofing replacement gathering powers, you’re sure to be astounded by its excellent look. It’s way better than the traditional and somewhat weird aftermarket solar panels that are applied to roofs today.

Tesla’s Solar Panels Hide in Plain Sight

At the event hosted by Elon Musk, Tesla presented the solar roofing, which comes in four unique styles including Slate Glass Tile, Textured Glass Tile, Tuscan Glass Tile, and Smooth Glass Tile. Each of these tiles possesses a unique ravishing look. However, they all maintained a look that resembled the current roofing style. In essence, each of them is transparent to solar but looks opaque when viewed from an angle.

According to Elon Musk, the current version of the tiles has a two percent loss of efficiency, so that’s 98% of what you’ll normally get from a typical solar panel. Tesla is fully prepared to exceed the expectations of customers around the world as they are working with 3M on enhanced coatings that possess the ability to exceed standard efficiency since it could trap the light within, which eventually leads to bouncing that results in less energy loss before it is finally diffused.

A Brand New Look For Solar

In today’s roofing, it is evident to see that conventional roofing materials hardly provide economic benefit back to the homeowner post installation, other than improving the overall cost of the home. The good news is that Tesla’s product does that by generating and supplying enough energy to fully power an entire household, thanks to the power designed to be stored in the all new Powerwall 2.0 battery units. This is sure to come in handy in helping homeowners keep a reserve in case of excess need. The Powerwall has enough power to run a two bedroom apartment (14kWh) for a day. I think this is a real game changer that gets rid of the many problems with rooftop solar panels and its reliance on the grid.

Now the big question: Can the average person afford Tesla’s new Solar Panels?

This is a tricky question as even Elon Musk himself has not disclosed the price of this masterpiece. However, he says that the panels will come at an affordable price. However, it is noteworthy to mention that the Powerwall is surprisingly affordable as it costs $5,500. As I earlier mentioned, the CEO has declined to name the specific price of the roof. He only says that the cost of the solar roof will be highly competitive with other traditional roofing solutions and that the low cost of electricity should help augment any remaining differences. I guess we know that the cost of installing solar shingles could cost as much as $30,000 minus incentives. When you examine the value you’ll discover that it is roughly three times as much as conventional roofing. However, the exact solely depends on the particular house.

With all that has been said, we cannot determine if Tesla’s solar panel can be affordable for the average American citizen. However, I think the Powerwall comes at a reasonable price considering the amazing qualities it possesses. We cannot say that this product can be owned by the average person due to the inequality in financial standing of each individual. According to Musk, Tesla roofs cost less than the total cost of a roof, and the electricity will be better than the expense of a regular roof combined with the cost of electricity from the grid.

We believe time will tell as Tesla plans to start offering the installation of the new tiles in the summer of 2017.
