Review: intelliGlass HD Screen Protector for iPad Mini

Having a Smartphone or a Tablet has become almost a necessity today. Most people can’t really imagine surviving without their gadgets. But these devices need care too. The Screen of these devices is one of the most sensitive areas. Suffice manufacturers making these screens as sturdy as possible; there is only so much they can do. It is up to you to go that extra mile. I have personally never advocated for a screen protector. This is due to the bad experience I have had with them. What is the point of adding some thick cover on my iPhone, resulting in it looking like a cheap knock off?

But I found the intelliGlass HD screen protector to be quite resourceful. The first thing that struck me was how affordable this screen protector is. We are so accustomed to believing that the more expensive something is the better it is, which has made us overlook some great products. But it was not just the price that stood out for me.

Here is how it came packaged:

Extremely thin

This for me was the biggest plus. As I said before, I avoided screen protectors because they created a noticeable bulge making my phone look like a counterfeit. But, with intelliGlass screen protector, at 0.3 mm thick, it’s almost unnoticeable.

It’s strong

Another big problem with screen guards had been how fragile they are. My phone dropped from the stool and the glass protector shattered. After installing the intelliGlass HD protector, I didn’t get the sense it was fragile at all.  As a matter of fact, the item was very sturdy and rigid and didn’t feel fragile in any form. The one time I dropped my iPad mini after installing it, purely for experimental purposes *cough*, it did not crack or scratch. Granted, I did not drop it on tile and it didn’t fall far, but still a fall that had me worried that I could be picking up my iPad with a cracked screen.

Clear appearance

We quickly evolved from the plastic phone protector after a few weeks of use, you would begin to see the imperfections. But, a glass guard does have a problem with glare. The cause of this was a combination of refraction and reflection from the glass protect and the phone’s screen due to the thick nature of some of these protective sheets. But with intelliglass’ thin concept, this problem is not there.

No air bubbles

One of the most important questions here and is often an issue are the resulting air bubbles from installation. Upon installation, the protective covering almost merges with the phone’s screen and removed almost all air bubbles right off the bat. The thin nature of the protective glass also makes cohesion, which is the primary principle for the glass and the screen to stick, more easily and firmly. This means that the glass won’t move and reposition later.

Upon the application, there were just two small air bubbles that existed on two corners of the iPad. These were very simple to remove with the include squeegee.

Oleophobic coating

This is a thin layer of glaze on the protective glass. It is very slippery and does not allow anything to stick to the glass. This helps to avoid fingerprint stains or oil on the phone screen. It also gives your screen that metallic look that keeps it looking new. In truth, most phone screens come with Oleophobic coating today. But it is usually too thin and wears off quickly due to friction with your fingers. In essence, this is one of the reasons you should get a screen protector to avoid this glaze from eroding.

But I have been pleasantly surprised by how strong the Oleophobic coating the intelliGlass screen protector has provided so far. It still has that metallic glow that it had on the day I installed it. I will update this review if anything changes over time.

intelliGlass HD is easy to install

A product is more useful if used correctly. As obvious as that statement is, some companies do not make it easy to use their products. But this screen protector was incredibly easy and fast to set up.

  1. Clean the phone screen with the alcoholic wipe. Alcohol is quite an effective cleaning agent, especially for oils. The company provides this wipe to ensure that you remove all the traces of oil and other dirt that may cause air bubbles on the screen. And, almost as importantly, wash your hands! You want to strip as many of the natural oils from your hands as possible.
  2. Clean the screen with the microfiber cloth provided. This removes any stubborn particles.
  3. Use the provided dust remover screen to remove the dust particles that may have stuck on the screen after building static energy with the wiping.
  4. Tilt your device to ensure all dust particles and smudges have been removed. And, do not touch your screen before applying the intelliGlass screen protector.
  5. intelliGlass included a complimentary suction cup to adhere to the non-adhesive side for easy application and removal of the protector.
  6. Use the complimentary squeegee to push out any remaining air bubbles.

Here are the results!

After using intelliGlass HD screen protector, I am quite happy with the results. In fact, I have not repaired my screen ever since. Sorcery!
