New Game Releases: July 14th-20th, 2016

Gun Gal

Beyond a trio of Eshop releases from Nintendo’s golden era, and an entry from Konami’s beloved horizontal shooter, there are a number of notable titles among week’s new releases. Among the more interesting offerings is Gun Gal: Double Peace, where players assume the role of Houdai, a student accidently shot by Cupid’s arrows, rendering him irresistible to the school’s female student body. In order to save himself for his one, true love, he is forced to employ the Pheromone Gun, sending any smitten pupils into a euphoric trance.  More games should replicate the typical high school experience.

Robert’s pick: Until the 2006 PSP release of Gradius Collection, I never got a chance to play Gradius II: Gofer’s Ambition, a Japan-only arcade sequel to Konami’s shooting classic. This week that game is heading to Sony’s digital marketplace, and while it likely warrants the eight-dollar asking price, I’d encourage STG fans to seek out the entire anthology, which can be played on the Vita. Not only is it a dollar cheaper, but includes four other Gradius titles.
