Tales Top Tips: Barry Fry and Neil Warnock to return to mainstream TV sets all over the country

Ah, the romance of the FA Cup. Sure, the 4th Round is never quite as romantic as the 3rd Round but there is still some romance left because there are still some teeny-tiny football clubs left in the competition. Let’s have a little looksie at what might happen in some of the main ties.

Yeovil Town vs Manchester United

I actually cannot remember is Alexis is cup-tied or not, but let us presume he isn’t. The narrative demands that he makes his debut at Huish Park and loses, giving the ball away stupid amounts of times and playing one little dinked through ball too many. Yeovil are having a tough season in League Two and most of the country would like to see them do something against United but realistically? It’s not happening.

Yeovil Town 0 – 2 Manchester United

Peterborough United vs Leicester City

Whenever I think of the Posh, I still think of Barry Fry. Is Barry still alive? If he is, I am sure we will see his face on TV several times during the game as, quite frankly, he is the most interesting thing to have ever happened to Peterborough. Will they beat Leicester City? I doubt it. The Foxes will be a safe mid-table side in the Premier League so might fancy taking the cup fairly seriously, which means Mahrez might be on song.

Peterborough United 1 – 3 Leicester City

Notts County vs Swansea City

Well hello there Kevin Nolan. How is management treating you? Sam Allardyce’s little soldier has made a decent start to his life in the dugout, leading Notts County to second place in League Two at present. Swansea City a week ago were a different proposition to Swansea City today (or tomorrow). Having beaten Liverpool 1-0 they will be full of the joys of mid-winter and the chances of a shock happening here have diminished quicker that Wilfried Bony gets injured.

Notts County 0 – 2 Swansea City

Southampton vs Watford

One manager sitting in the electric chair meets a manager who has just taken over the prison cell vacated due to the execution of Marco Silva. Will Watford bounce? Troy Deeney bounces every time he falls over, so who knows? Mauricio Pellegrino spoke passionately after his team’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur last week but words need to turn into victories.

Southampton 1 – 1 Watford

Wigan Athletic vs West Ham United

Do you remember when Wigan Athletic beat Manchester City in the FA Cup Final? Ah, football before money got involved. When the paupers could beat the kings. They’re not playing kings tomorrow, admittedly. They are playing West Ham. And West Ham will win because David Moyes has got a good thing going on.

Wigan Athletic 2 – 3 West Ham United

Newport County vs Tottenham Hotspur

Newport are doing very well to even exist in League Two but Spurs will absolutely tear them apart on live TV which will be a shame.

Newport County 0 – 4 Tottenham Hotspur

Liverpool vs West Bromwich Albion

Liverpool are SO Liverpool. Having beaten Manchester City, they went and lost to bottom of the league Swansea City. You don’t win stuff doing that now, do you? The FA Cup does feel like it’s something Liverpool could win though, as on their day they can beat anyone so if they can just turn up often enough between now and the final then it could be their year.

Liverpool 2 – 0 West Bromwich Albion

Chelsea vs Newcastle United

The plane departing for Italy is very much on Antonio Conte’s runway now. Losing to Arsenal is one thing. Being outwitted by Arsene Wenger is another thing entirely. Conte is clearly unhappy and I really cannot see how Eden Dzeko is going to improve his mood. Still, he could be Rafa Benitez who, with five days of the window remaining, has brought in Kenedy on loan and not a lot else. Just walk Rafa, just walk.

Chelsea 1 – 1 Newcastle United

Cardiff City vs Manchester City

Oh good. A reason for Neil Warnock to be on the TV. Just what we need. The oldest school manager still in existence vs the most modern manager alive. Every single klaxon is going off at the mere thought of this clash. And please, please, please do not let Warnock win this. It will be unbearable.

Cardiff City 0 – 3 Manchester City
