After missing the Euro 2012 Romania have qualified to UEFA Euro 2016 and they will play the opening game against the home side France. The other teams they will face are: Switzerland and Albania.
Brief History at the Euros
Romania is one of only four national teams from Europe that took part in the first World Cup in 1930(together with Yugoslavia, France, and Belgium).
Despite this fact Romania didn't succeeded to qualify to a European Championship final tournament until the 1984 European Championship held in France (missing six tournaments 1960, 1964, 1968, 1972, 1976, 1980).
In the 1984 tournament Romania was placed in a tough group with Spain, West Germany and Portugal. Although the start was promising, drawing against Spain, they lost against West Germany and Portugal, exiting the competition after the group stage.
Romania didn't qualify for the next two tournaments (1988 and 1992).
Romania did qualify to the 1996 European Championship held in England, they were even considered a good team, with high chances to pass at least the group stage, but it was a nightmare, Romania losing all three matches (against France, Bulgaria and Spain) and exiting the competition in shame.
Romania have qualified again to the tournament in 2000, held by Belgium and Netherlands and for the first time in their history they passed the group stage, even though they were placed in a though group with Germany, England and Portugal. After drawing Germany in the first game and losing to Portugal in the final minutes of the second game they faced England in the decisive game.

It was a memorable encounter as England led 2-1 half-time after Romania scored first. But in the second half Romania attacked and first equalised and in the last minutes they scored again from a penalty, thanks to this victory they advanced to the knockout stage.
In the quarter-finals they played against Italy and they lost 2-0.
In 2004 they didn't qualify but they did for the 2008 edition held in Austria and Switzerland. But again they were placed in a though group, the so call group of death with Italy, France and Netherlands. In the first two games they draw against France and Italy and they needed a win against the already qualified Netherlands, but they couldn't deliver it, they lost and exited the competition after the group stage.
Romania had a disastrous qualification phase for the Euro 2012 and they didn't qualify for the final tournament.
