Jan Vertonghen has been a rock in the middle of the Tottenham and Belgium defence for several years now. The 31-year-old center-half was at his reliable best yet again last night, as Belgium began their UEFA Nations League campaign with an impressive 4-0 win over Scotland at Hampden Park.
After the game, Vertonghen took took to Instagram to post the following photo, with the caption, “Four goals. A clean sheet. The perfect away win.”

Four goals. A clean sheet. The perfect away win.
Vertonghen, who is the most capped player in Belguim’s history is a fan favourite among Spurs fans , not just because of his ability to be solid in defence and read the game well, but also for his ability to stride out from defence with the ball.
In other words, he is regarded as an all-round defender and by the looks of it, Vertonghen’s Spurs team-mate, Eric Dier certainly agrees. Dier retorted to Vertonghen’s post about ‘The perfect away win’ with a comment that read, ‘The perfect player’.
Vertonghen is now into the final year of his contract with Tottenham. While, the club have the option of extending it for one more year, it remains to be seen if they will take it.
Tottenham fans will certainly be hoping Daniel Levy takes Eric Dier’s advice on the matter, as the Belgian ace proved yet again on Friday that he has still very much got it.
