“Good enough for the first team” – Marko Grujic earning rave reviews with his performance for Liverpool U23s last night (Tweets)

One to watch out for

Tricks, flicks, back-heels, huge presence, long-range passes, no look passes – all this at the tender age of 20. Heady praise indeed, but Liverpool may have found their next Steven Gerrard.

Marko Grujic had been scouted by Europe’s top teams and ear-marked as a world-class talent in the making. Turning down continental heavyweights like Real Madrid and Juventus, a personal call from manager Jurgen Klopp made up the young Serbian’s mind to move to Liverpool. Injury has greatly curtailed his first-team involvement this season, but Grujic impressed and then some in the Under-23s clash with Chelsea last night.

Liverpool emerged comfortable winners with a 2-0 margin. While Trent Alexander-Arnold had a man of the match display capped off with an exquisite free kick, Grujic was central to the Reds’ attacking threat. It was his sweeping pass that led to a penalty, which Harry Wilson converted to net his 25th goal of the season.

At 6’3’’, the former Red Star Belgrade player moves with scarcely believable grace and agility. Grujic has been compared for his abilities and stature to Yaya Toure and Patrick Vieira – definitely good company to keep.

Check out the reaction after his performance below!
