Hiddink is unbeaten in 12 Premier League games since returning to the west London club, which gives him the longest unbeaten start to a job in the history of the division, overtaking Frank Clark’s record of 11 games at Nottingham Forest in the process.
As a result Chelsea have climbed from 15th to 10th in the league table, but Hiddink wrote off any chances of making the top four following the draw with Stoke on Saturday.
Although seven of the games have been draws Chelsea have beaten Arsenal and Southampton under Hiddink as well as seeing off Newcastle 5-1 – the best margin of victory this season.
Across his two spells at the club the Dutchman has managed a total of 38 games and only been beaten twice – once by Tottenham in the Premier League in his first spell and once by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League this time around.
Chelsea were desperate for a steady, experienced manager to come in and steady the ship following Jose Mourinho’s departure in December.
And that is exactly what they got in Hiddink – a man who previously won the FA Cup with the club in 2009 and guided them to the Champions League semi-finals.
Antonio Conte is expected to take over the club next season but there is an argument that Hiddink should carry on given the excellent job he is doing.
