It’s fair to say Guus Hiddink’s return to Chelsea has gone well. In fact it has gone so well that the Dutchman has set a Premier League Record.

Hiddink is unbeaten in 12 Premier League games since returning to the west London club, which gives him the longest unbeaten start to a job in the history of the division, overtaking Frank Clark’s record of 11 games at Nottingham Forest in the process.

As a result Chelsea have climbed from 15th to 10th in the league table, but Hiddink wrote off any chances of making the top four following the draw with Stoke on Saturday.Chelsea v Stoke City Premier League

Although seven of the games have been draws Chelsea have beaten Arsenal and Southampton under Hiddink as well as seeing off Newcastle 5-1 – the best margin of victory this season.

Across his two spells at the club the Dutchman has managed a total of 38 games and only been beaten twice – once by Tottenham in the Premier League in his first spell and once by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League this time around.

Chelsea were desperate for a steady, experienced manager to come in and steady the ship following Jose Mourinho’s departure in December.

And that is exactly what they got in Hiddink – a man who previously won the FA Cup with the club in 2009 and guided them to the Champions League semi-finals.

Antonio Conte is expected to take over the club next season but there is an argument that Hiddink should carry on given the excellent job he is doing.
