Nike have had incredible success with their Huarache model in the 24 years since it was first created by Tinker Hatfield. With the warmer months just around the corner, the Swoosh have introduced us to what they hope will be a contender for biggest trainer of 2016, the Huarache Ultra.
Coming from years of high-quality game-changing style, the Huarache range has long been a favourite among sneakerheads. Back in the 90s it countered the culture of flashy, over-the-top running shoes.
This streamlined minimalist trainer was an instant success. It’s no wonder it gained an early appreciation in the urban world, where rule-bending creativity is everything.
Now the Ultra is set to continue this tradition with a host of developments, from the updated elasticated heel strap – replacing the iconic cage at the back – to a new and more breathable fabric applied to the toebox. The heel innovation doesn’t stop there with added heel pull also a new feature.
As with the majority of Nike’s recent trainer designs, minimalism and comfort is paramount. Through the improved forefoot flex and lighter sole, the Huarache Ultra beautifully pairs its prolific past with cutting edge aesthetics advancements.
Two further shifts see a toebox mudguard brought in while a higher cut on the ankle nods to the on-going popularity of sock-like fitting, and looking, footwear.
In a touching tribute, the men’s drop – available now – even includes a colourway that takes cues from the OG scream green edition first released back in 1992.
Make no mistake about it, the Huarache Ultra is 2016’s future classic.
