Royals Prospect Zimmer Once Again Placed On DL

According to a tweet by the official Omaha Storm Chasers twitter account, pitcher Kyle Zimmer has once again landed himself on the disabled list retroactive to April 21st.

His most recent stint comes after he left Thursdays game early with what was described as a sore shoulder.

Zimmer is no stranger to the disabled list, having landed on it frequently during his 6 seasons with the Royals organization. Last season, he underwent Thoracic Outlet Syndrome Surgery in hopes of correcting the plethora of shoulder ailments that had plagued him during his career.

He had an elbow cleanout in 2012, strained lat in 2014, shoulder issues in fall ball in 2014, rotator cuff surgery in 2015, and his most recent surgery in 2016.

Once a top prospect in the organization, Zimmer still posses the lights out ability that made him a coveted arm, but has seem his stock diminish with his inability to stay on the field and off of the disabled list.

On the season, Zimmer had managed a 4.76 ERA in 2 starts at AAA Omaha and was striking out 9.5 batters per nine innings. For his career, covering parts of 6 seasons, Zimmer has a 3.26 ERA in 232 innings.

Should Zimmer manage to stay healthy, there is some speculation that he could be a key contributor to the big league club as soon as this season, but given his injury history that is anything but a certainty.
