Phillies beat Cubs in walk-off fashion thanks to Cabrera

Asdrubal Cabrera hit a solo shot in the 10th inning off Steve Cishek to lift the Phillies to a 2-1 win over the NL best Chicago Cubs at Citizens Bank Park on Friday night.

The victory, coupled with a Braves loss, trimmed the Phillies deficit in the NL East pennant race to two games.

"We take care of business, we do our part, we kind of feel like we are in control of our destiny," Phillies manager Gabe Kapler told reporters afterward (see video). "And we really are. We play great baseball down the stretch, we're going to win the National League East."

Pat Neshek earned the win, tossing a scoreless 10th inning for the Phils.

Starter Nick Pivetta tossed five innings, surrendering one run on five hits. He walked three and struck out six. The bullpen combined to toss five shutout innings to keep the game in the balance. Hector Neris notched a pair of strikeouts, pushing his total to 14 over his last seven appearances while not surrendering a run.

Javy Baez homered for the Cubs off Pivetta in the fifth to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage. The Phillies evened the contest an inning later on a Cesar Hernandez RBI-single that scored Roman Quinn.

Jose Quintana worked six innings for the Cubs, allowing one run on three hits.

The two clubs resume their series on Saturday with Zach Eflin facing Kyle Hendricks.

Expanded Rosters
The Phillies announced some roster moves early Saturday as the rosters now can expand to 40 players. The club recalled OF Aaron Altherr, OF Dylan Cozens and RHP Yacksel Ríos from Lehigh Valley (AAA). Additionally, the team activated RHP Edubray Ramos & LHP Austin Davis from the 10-day DL and utilityman Pedro Florimón from the 60-day DL.

On the Move
Reliever Mark Leiter Jr. was claimed on outright waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays. The righty was 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA over 12 appearances with the Phillies this season.
